Many fear that which they do not understand. It is part of being human. But we can go beyond this fear with introspection.
You can look up anything these days on the Internet, and see positive attributes of a thing, or negative attributes of a thing. For example, you can look up any religion, and see good things said about it, and then turn around and see bad things said about it. You can look up the word ‘energy' and see good things said about it, and then turn around and see bad things said about it. You can look up ‘peace' and the same thing happens. This goes for all things. But you must not accept all things as they are said to you, you must not accept all things as your own just because you have heard them from someone else, just because they have been written by what appears to be an authority.
One of my favorite quotes is a quote from Buddha, and I share this quote daily with those who ask me questions about their own lives.
Buddha said:
"Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. Do not believe anything because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything because it is written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and the benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it."
Each person must use their own inner discernment.
How does one do that?
You must go back to the very beginning. This isn't about living in the past. This is about getting rid of the past that doesn't belong with you any longer. This is about becoming aware of and beginning to live your life from a new perspective. This is about being in the now moment, about living in the present.
You must - with your own mind - go through from your earliest memories (which can be a long and painstaking task) and you must go through each one and look at the filters that you have agreed to accept. Put aside all of the false beliefs that you may have acquired throughout your life. You must look to yourself and literally feel what is right for you, what spells out T-R-U-T-H to you. When you do this, you will find that there are many things that you decided long ago to let slide by, to not question, and these things then became a part of your life. You must look to the judgments that you have agreed to accept about yourself and others in the past. You will find that there were and still are many situations in which you decided to become a ‘victim' because of certain beliefs that you held to be true.
When you use your inner discernment, which is one of the greatest tools we have available for our use, you will begin to change yourself, and you will begin to change how you look at things. Things that caused you grief in the past will eventually pass away. You will begin to understand things from a place of truth, instead a place of false beliefs.
You must then begin a process of forgiveness; forgiveness of yourself, forgiveness of others in your past and in your present, forgiveness of situations, etc. This process of forgiveness will be an ongoing process that will need to be done in your daily life. You will find an inner peace, an inner sanctuary that is being cleared away for new growth. You will find that as you go through this process, weight is seemingly lifted off of your shoulders, physical pains will be released from your body, and a new outlook on life will begin to emerge.
This, you will find, will be the greatest gift that you could ever receive; a gift that you give to yourself.
In the Light,
Leslie
